Specific Financial Needs of the Nurturing Network

The accomplishment of three high priority initiatives during the year depends upon the generosity of TNN's individual benefactors, foundations and corporations.

Phase Three of TNN's Strategic Educational Expansion Project was launched in 2007 and will conclude in December 2008. The goal of this initiative is to train and develop each of the selected Cluster Coordinators on TNN's targeted college campuses.

A GIFT IN THE $10,000 -$50,000 RANGE would provide the resources necessary to expand the number of practical resources readily available to serve many more college students in need of TNN's support.


Annual Salary & Benefits for Manager of College Outreach: $50,000
TNN's Director of Member Resources and College Outreach requires an annual salary of $50,000 including taxes and benefits. In order to retain the talent of this trained professional, TNN must budget for her salary each year as the Campus Expansion Project is fully implemented.

Travel Budget for Manager of Campus Outreach: $10,000 Ten trips of approximately one week duration are planned for the Manager of Campus Outreach during the academic year. The airfare, hotel and food budget assumes that 50% of the projected cost will be donated by local TNN Member volunteers.

National Distribution of TNN's Journal, DVD, Campus Kit: $18,000
Newly-designed College Outreach materials include a specialized College-University Information Packet that contains TNN's 20th Anniversary Documentary DVD, the recently published Maternal Profiles in Courage Book, and the Freshman Orientation Packet. These materials will be distributed to targeted colleges and universities during 2007.

Increase in Campus Support Services $40,000
By significantly expanding TNN's presence on 450 colleges and universities in seven key regions of the United States, the number of college students that TNN can serve is expected to increase substantially. The average cost to serve one TNN Client has remained for over a decade at between $300 and $500. Service for an increase of 100 Clients is budgeted at $400 each.

Activation of TNN's Presence on new campus communities: $25,000
TNN's newly designed College Campus Kit containing the newly released Documentary DVD, camera-ready material appropriate for campus publications, a newly designed one page ad and a poster for bulletin board display will be shared with all Cluster Coordinators identified during Phases One and Two. As relationships are strengthened and additional materials are requested by TNN's Cluster Coordinators on each campus, the recently published Maternal Profiles in Courage Book plus other educational materials will be provided at no cost.

Through our direct Client counseling, we are able to foster a healthy social and economic independence in our Clients as soon as possible after the baby is born. Our economic support is designed to help each woman on a temporary basis in ways that facilitate her having a long range plan in place before her baby is born. Our program also helps provide the on-going emotional support and career counseling which is usually needed after the birth of her child.

A GIFT IN THE $100 -$3,000 RANGE would enable the Nurturing Network to increase the emergency financial support available to offer directly to our Clients while also increasing the number of mothers and children whom we are able to serve.

Many of the women who call our Network are College students or hourly wage earners with no savings, little or no insurance and no parental support to enable them to withstand the financial pressure of an unplanned pregnancy. Clients often need short term financial assistance to pay for hospital bills, rent, groceries, and utilities for a period of time ranging from one to six months. When a Client's physical safety and emotional well-being is in imminent jeopardy, it is often imperative that she relocate immediately to an environment supportive of her pregnancy. Assistance with moving costs is often necessary within days of a woman calling for help.

When direct financial assistance is required, it often takes the following form:

Gifts from $100 -$3,000

	Vocational counseling and job re-training classes	250
	Crib with complete layette	350
	Three month's day care assistance during job transition	500
	Relocation, U-Haul, moving costs	1,000
	Groceries and utility allowance for six months	1,200
	Five months rent assistance	3,000
	Five months rent assistance	3,000

Utilizing all of the available resources of our Network, we are able to keep the average cost to serve a Client at $400. At this average cost, it is easy to calculate the value of each additional donated dollar.




Due to TNN's 20 year proven track record, well-established policies and procedures, 48,000 Member database, state of the art Raiser's Edge software, fully integrated computer system, and the good will that has been generated from serving over 19,000 Clients, TNN is prepared to invest in the next generation of top management. With the increase in awareness of TNN's program generated by 20th Anniversary favorable publicity and special events, the need to fund the next generation of leadership is of strategic importance.

A "LEADERSHIP" GIFT OF $10,000, $25,000, $50,000 AND HIGHER will contribute to the "up-front" investment in staffing, equipment, training and office space that will provide for a meaningful increase in the total number of Clients that we can responsibly and efficiently serve annually. Within three years, it is anticipated that an expanded base of benefactors will provide the annual funding to make TNN's salary budget self-sustaining.

Hire an Executive Director: $80,000 salary & $20,000 taxes and benefits
TNN has benefited from twenty years of donated salaries from TNN's Founder, President and Chief Operating Officer. These salary donations have been conservatively estimated by independent accountants as valued at over $3,500,000. Other professional Staff Members have followed this generous example. All donated salaries are illustrated on the attached Organizational Chart.

Adding an Executive Director to TNN's top management team will not only support TNN's Founder as she ensures the future viability of TNN, but it will also facilitate significant new Member and Client growth immediately. The addition of a senior executive will permit TNN's President to accept more media and public speaking invitations which will generate additional awareness of TNN's organization and motivate new donors.

Travel Budget for Salaried Executive Director: $20,000
A newly hired Executive Director is expected to travel to visit a significant percentage of target Colleges and Universities while maintaining a high media profile and generating major gifts from individual benefactors.

Toll-free "Life-line" for one year: $15,000

TNN's professional Staff members are readily assessable by phone to any mother is crisis by calling 1-800-TNN-4MOM. This method of communication is essential because it is so readily available to any women in need of support. It is also the way in which TNN's Staff can give voice to the warmth, compassion and generosity of TNN's dedicated volunteer Resource Members.

Salary and Training for one professional full-time Staff: $30,000

Salary and Training for one professional full-time Counselor: $35,000




I hope that this information will be helpful in demonstrating how important your financial support is to the mothers and children whom we serve. Over the two decades, TNN has consistently been able to allocate an average of 90% of expenditures directly to Client services and programs.

Since TNN's founding, our members nationwide have contributed nearly 425,000 hours of volunteer service. This support over the years has been conservatively valued at over $12,500,000. These gifts of time and talent enable us to leverage each donated dollar to the maximum degree possible.
