Overview: Invitation to Help Build a Culture of Life
As we search for more creative ways to help form an authentic and lasting culture of life, I would like to share with you one avenue of expression that has proven to be non-judgmental, highly constructive and refreshingly apolitical. I am referring to the life-affirming mission of the Nurturing Network, a charitable organization that has consumed the majority of my professional time and energy since founding it in 1985 following the loss of our first child in a mid-trimester miscarriage.
What began as a modest, grassroots attempt to marshal the talent and moral conviction of a few caring friends has blossomed over the years into a powerful, international Network of over 48,000 dedicated Resource Members.
More than 19,000 mothers and their children have been served through the Network's compassionate counseling and the provision of a full range of practical resources that enable a mother to "choose life" for her unborn child.
The objective of the Nurturing Network is not a political one, but a most practical one: To ensure that every woman knows that the resources she needs in order to continue her pregnancy are readily available without cost by contacting the Nurturing Network. TNN's toll-free number has become one of the nation's most effective lifelines, linking literally thousands of mothers to the support they urgently need through our Network of individual Resource Members.
Over the years I have found that networking with other organizations involved in this vital work is an important part of how we can most effectively accomplish our mission. Our Network actively cooperates with over 2400 local pregnancy resource centers all across the country. During this past year alone, one third of our Clients were referred to us by these local service providers. We also work closely with hundreds of local parishes, Respect Life Directors and faith-based outreach programs who share our commitment to ensuring that all human life is affirmed and protected. This kind of collaboration makes our common goal more viable and our collective efforts far more effective.
Our program is designed to meet the needs of all pregnant women with a special emphasis on assisting college and working women. These are the women for whom few, if any, resources had been made available until TNN's international program of practical assistance was founded. When you learn of a woman in need of the comprehensive, practical support that our organization has to offer without charge, please do not hesitate to call our office. We welcome the opportunity to assist her in any way that we can.
